Discussion:
Problems changing shortcuts on Xubuntu

Hi all,

today I installed Xubuntu 14.04 and Bluefish 2.2.5 on my computer. I
tried to change the shortcuts of Bluefish by hovering over the menu
entry and pressing the desired new shortcut. But nothing happened! Is
there any other possibility to change the shortcuts, maybe through import?

Thank you!

Best wishes,

Ralf

Do /none /of the short cut options work?
This sounds more like a fault with a partial installation of your desktop
installation (KDE?) than Bluefish.
Cheers!

The preconfigured shortcuts work well! I just can't change them. The
desktop is XFCE.

It's been years since I used XFCE.
I wouldn't know what's going on, sorry.

Ok, I have found a way to deal with that. I have replaced
~\.bluefish\menudump_2 with a version, where I have changed the shortcuts.

Changing shortcuts on the fly is something that is going to be removed
from gtk since it confuses new users. It has been disabled for a few
years already, but Bluefish reverts this setting. It might be that this
functionality has finally be removed. In which case we cannot really do
anything to fix it.

It should definitely not be removed. Disabled by default is a good fail
safe choice, removing it is a very bad decision, we should lobby by GTK
developers to maintain the option!

We could gather some "signatures" (petition to maintain it) here among
Bluefish users and send it to GTK developers. What do you think?

All of the current menu ui code that Bluefish currently uses has been
depreciated in GTK3 and will be removed in GTK4. Menu creation in
current versions of GTK is using a new API.

The ability to change shortcuts has not been removed from GTK. Only the
ability to change them by hovering over them. A user configurable
shortcut dialog in Bluefish is probably the best way to keep the ability
for the user to easily change shortcuts in the future.
